The Hunger Hotspots: Early Warnings on Acute Food Insecurity 2024-2025
Description
|May. 1, 2025
FAO-WFP|May. 1, 2025

The Hunger Hotspots: FAO-WFP Early Warnings on Acute Food Insecurity (Outlook November 2024 – May 2025) report, published in October 2024 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), warns of worsening acute food insecurity in 22 countries. Key drivers include conflict, economic shocks, and climate events such as El Niño. Countries like Sudan, Palestine, South Sudan, Haiti, and Mali are facing catastrophic conditions, while Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, and Myanmar are at high risk. Newly added hotspots—Kenya, Niger, Namibia, and Lesotho—signal deepening instability. The report urges immediate humanitarian action to prevent famine and protect livelihoods.
