The WFP Global Outlook 2025 warns of “a year of unrelenting crises”, fueled by deepening conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability. Acute hunger now threatens 343 million people across 74 countries, with up to 1.9 millionteetering on the edge of famine—particularly in Gaza, Sudan, South Sudan, Haiti, and Mali.
To respond, WFP is seeking $16.9 billion to support 123 million of the world’s most vulnerable. The plan allocates around 75% to emergency relief, 22% to resilience-building, and 3% to tackling the root causes of food insecurity.
Yet, a sharp 40% decline in donor funding looms, with only $6.4 billion expected for 2025. Internal memos warn of painful program cuts unless urgent new funding is secured.
