Today, patient harm due to unsafe care is a large and growing global public health challenge and is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. The plan sets out a global framework to reduce avoidable harm in healthcare through seven strategic objectives including better governance, safer systems, empowered patients, and strengthened workforce education. Unsafe care causes 2.6 million deaths annually in low- and middle-income countries and costs trillions globally this plan is a roadmap for saving lives and improving healthcare system trust and efficiency.
