This policy brief from the World Health Organization (WHO) presents eight priority interventions designed to mainstream antimicrobial resistance (AMR) strategies into primary health care (PHC)-oriented health systems. It builds upon the WHO's people-centered approach to addressing AMR (PCA-AMR) and its core package of 13 AMR interventions, promoting equitable, affordable access to high-quality health services for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infections, including drug-resistant infections. The interventions are clustered according to the three PHC components and are based on evidence and lessons learned from a validation project in four countries.
Key Themes:
Integration of AMR into PHC: Strategies to embed AMR interventions within primary health care systems.
People-Centered Approach: Emphasis on patient-centered care and community engagement.
Multisectoral Policy Action: Collaboration across various sectors to address AMR comprehensively.
Evidence-Based Interventions: Implementation of interventions grounded in research and practical experiences.
Global Health Security: Strengthening health systems to combat global health threats posed by AMR.
