This weekly report from the Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) documents major human rights developments across Lebanon amid ongoing regional tensions and internal instability. The brief highlights violations linked to conflict, public safety, and environmental and criminal incidents during the reporting period.
Key Findings:
Escalating Israeli attacks:
A series of Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon caused multiple civilian casualties. Strikes on Al-Bayyad, Harouf, Shebaa, Blida, Kounin, Shokin, Kfar Rumman, and Kfarsir resulted in at least a dozen deaths and several injuries. Municipal infrastructure and residential areas were also damaged, raising humanitarian concerns.
Cross-border violations:
The Lebanese Army removed Israeli barriers near Markaba following incursions and bombardments around Maroun al-Ras, underscoring repeated breaches of Lebanese territory and threats to civilian safety.
Domestic incidents and security concerns:
Separate events included the collapse of a wall at a Tripoli construction site, killing one worker; clashes in Beddawi refugee camp; and a family feud in Zrarieh leading to injuries. The murder of a woman in Wazzani and the rape and killing of a 10-year-old girl in Naameh reflected ongoing issues of gender-based and interpersonal violence.
Environmental protection case:
TERRE Liban filed a legal complaint against illegal construction above the environmentally sensitive Amchit Seal Cave, calling for work to be halted and the area restored, highlighting growing civil society involvement in environmental rights.
