Neurolink Rival Scores Big Against Elon Musk
NEW YORK CITY (Enmaeya News) — Elon Musk’s Neuralink has garnered significant attention, especially after receiving FDA approval for human trials, but Precision Neuroscience is taking a different, less invasive route. Rather than implanting electrodes deep into the brain, Precision’s device, called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface, sits on the brain’s surface like a thin film, aiming to minimize surgical risks while enabling high-resolution neural data collection.
Precision Neuroscience, co-founded by a Neuralink alumnus, is working toward FDA clearance and has already tested its technology in humans, showing promise for treating paralysis and neurological disorders. The company claims its device could eventually help restore movement and communication for patients with severe disabilities. Meanwhile, Neuralink’s more invasive implants have faced scrutiny over safety concerns, including reports of complications in animal testing.
The competition highlights two diverging philosophies in neurotechnology: Neuralink’s aggressive, high-risk approach versus Precision’s focus on safety and gradual innovation. As both companies advance, the broader BCI industry is rapidly advancing, raising ethical and regulatory questions about brain augmentation, data privacy, and long-term impacts on patients.
