BEIRUT, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — The Ministry of Agriculture launched the Urban Farmers' Markets, providing a platform for local farmers to sell their products directly to consumers. This initiative seeks to strengthen the local economy and encourage environmentally friendly farming practices. The inauguration took place in Beirut on April 25, 2025. The Urban Farmers' Markets aim to bridge the gap between producers and consumers, ensuring fresh produce availability and supporting small-scale farmers. This move is part of broader efforts to enhance food security and promote sustainable agricultural practices in Lebanon. The initiative is spearheaded by the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, with participation from local farmers, cooperatives, and community organizations. Recognizing the challenges local farmers face and the need for sustainable food systems, the Ministry developed this initiative to provide direct market access, reduce intermediaries, and promote organic and environmentally friendly farming methods. The Ministry plans to expand the Urban Farmers' Markets to other regions, fostering a nationwide network that supports local agriculture and provides consumers with access to fresh, locally produced goods.
