DUBAI (Enmaeya News) — Government schools across the United Arab Emirates will introduce a mandatory artificial intelligence curriculum for students from preschool through grade 12, starting next academic year.
The move was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, who confirmed that AI will become a formal subject under the title "Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation" across all stages of public education. “Students should obtain a deep understanding of AI from a technical perspective,” he said.
The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, led the development of the new curriculum. It covers seven core areas: foundational AI concepts, data and algorithms, software applications, ethical awareness, real-world use cases, innovation and project design, and public policy and community engagement.
The curriculum is tailored by age and divided into three learning cycles. The first introduces comparisons between humans and machines, digital thinking skills, and basic AI applications. The second focuses on designing AI systems, understanding algorithmic bias, and using technology responsibly. The third explores command engineering and applies learning to real-world case studies.
Officials emphasized that the curriculum aims not only to equip students with technical skills, but also to raise awareness of the ethical implications and risks associated with AI technologies.
“AI supports economic growth, fosters sustainable development, and enhances individual capabilities,” said UAE Minister of Education, Sarah Al Amiri. She also underscored the need for responsible use and greater awareness of AI’s ethical dimensions.
The initiative reflects the UAE’s broader national strategy to position artificial intelligence as a key driver of future readiness, innovation, and sustainable growth.
