BEIRUT (Enmaeya News) — Lebanon's Ministry of Agriculture has rolled out a national initiative aimed at reviving the country's deteriorating agriculture and fisheries sectors. The campaign, spearheaded by Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani, is being carried out in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and several international bodies.

The campaign kicked off in late April with a public volunteer event in Qana, southern Lebanon, and extended to Naqoura’s fishing port, where Minister Hani met with local fishermen to discuss the industry's pressing challenges. The initiative includes the distribution of certified seeds, training programs for farmers, and significant upgrades to agricultural and fisheries infrastructure.

Lebanon's farming and fishing communities have been hit hard by years of economic instability and environmental pressures. The campaign aims to combat illegal practices such as dynamite fishing, promote sustainable production, and restore local food sovereignty.

Minister Hani emphasized the importance of community engagement, highlighting partnerships with local associations, universities, scout groups, and fishing communities. "This is not just about rebuilding what was lost. It's about creating a sustainable future for our rural communities," he said during the launch.

The Ministry of Agriculture plans to scale the initiative nationwide, introducing community-led activities, technical support, and regulatory measures to protect marine life and ensure long-term sustainability.
