BEIRUT (Enmaeya News) — On May 23, 2025, Lebanon’s Finance Minister Yassine Jaber and Minister of Energy and Water Joe Saddi signed a $257.8 million loan agreement with the World Bank to implement the Second Greater Beirut Water Supply Project. The agreement was signed in the presence of World Bank Regional Director Jean-Christophe Carret and aims to improve water access for approximately 1.8 million residents in Greater Beirut and Mount Lebanon.
Minister Jaber highlighted the World Bank's ongoing support in accelerating Lebanon’s access to international financing, and emphasized how this project will help reduce the population’s reliance on expensive private water tankers, especially amid Lebanon’s broader economic and environmental crises. World Bank Director Carret stated that the project is aligned with Lebanon’s National Water Sector Strategy 2024–2035, which prioritizes water quality, efficient resource management, and sector reform.
