Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — U.S. satellite internet provider Starlink is in talks with Lebanon’s government to launch its services in the country, the Lebanese presidency said on Thursday, signaling a potential boost to the nation’s struggling telecoms sector.

President Joseph Aoun met with Starlink’s Global Director of Licensing and Development, Sam Turner, who briefed him on ongoing discussions between the company and Lebanon’s Ministry of Telecommunications.

The presidency said Starlink’s entry could enhance internet connectivity across key sectors, including industry, commerce, education, and public administration.

Telecoms Minister Charles Hage also met with the president to present updates on the negotiations, which could see Lebanon join the 136 countries where Starlink is currently operational.

Lebanon has long grappled with outdated infrastructure and high costs in the telecommunications sector, ranking among the most expensive countries for mobile data. Years of mismanagement, corruption, and fiscal deficits have left core public services underfunded and in disrepair.

No timeline has yet been announced for the potential rollout of Starlink services in Lebanon.
