BEIRUT (Enmaeya News) — Lebanon’s health minister met last week with a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to address healthcare support for refugees, following the agency’s decision to halt funding for certain treatments for Syrian refugees.

During the meeting, the UNHCR informed the minister of its plan to suspend financial support for specific medical services, a move that could limit access to essential care for one of Lebanon’s most vulnerable communities.

The minister emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the Lebanese government and international partners to preserve access to basic health services, particularly as the country faces ongoing economic challenges.

Both parties highlighted the need to develop long-term, sustainable solutions to address rising healthcare demands. The minister also voiced concern about the impact of the funding suspension on refugee health outcomes and the pressure it may place on Lebanon’s public health system.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, efforts are ongoing to explore new partnerships and mechanisms to ensure access to care for all residents, regardless of status.

The meeting comes as Lebanon continues to coordinate with humanitarian agencies amid an ongoing socio-economic crisis.
