GENEVA, Switzerland (Enmaeya News) — Global temperatures are expected to remain at or near record highs through 2029, with an 80% chance that at least one year will surpass 2024 as the hottest on record, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said in a new report.

The agency also reported an 86% chance that at least one year between 2025 and 2029 will exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels — a key limit set in the 2015 Paris Agreement. There is a 70% chance the five-year average will also pass that threshold.

“We have just experienced the 10 warmest years on record,” said WMO Deputy Secretary-General Ko Barrett. “Unfortunately, this report provides no sign of respite over the coming years, and this means that there will be a growing negative impact on our economies, our daily lives, our ecosystems, and our planet.”

The Arctic is projected to warm more than 3.5 times faster than the global average, fueling sea level rise and threatening ecosystems. Average global temperatures from 2025 to 2029 are expected to be 1.2°C to 1.9°C above 19th-century levels.

The WMO warned that rising temperatures will lead to more extreme weather, including heatwaves, heavy rainfall, droughts, and melting glaciers, highlighting the urgent need for stronger climate action.
