Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — On June 13, the European Union, the French government, and UNICEF Lebanon launched new solar-powered water pumping systems and upgraded infrastructure in Dar Baachtar and Chekka to improve sustainable access to clean water in northern Lebanon.
Supported by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented with the Ministry of Energy and Water and UNICEF, the project replaces unstable, fuel-dependent water systems with modern, energy-efficient solutions. It is expected to benefit more than 16,000 residents by providing a reliable, eco-friendly water supply.
At the inauguration, the EU ambassador underscored the project's role in improving daily life and strengthening public services amid Lebanon’s ongoing economic and environmental crises. UNICEF representatives said the initiative promotes long-term resilience by ensuring sustainable, affordable water access for vulnerable communities.
