Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — The World Bank announced today the approval of a $250 million financing package to support Lebanon's reconstruction efforts following the 14-month war on Lebanon. This funding is part of a broader $1 billion scalable framework aimed at addressing Lebanon's extensive reconstruction needs.
The Lebanon Emergency Assistance Project (LEAP) will prioritize and sequence interventions to maximize economic and social impact within the shortest timeframe. The project focuses on the urgent repair and reconstruction of critical public infrastructure and lifeline services, as well as the sustainable management of rubble in conflict-affected areas.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the World Bank's decision, describing it as a "key step" in addressing the damage to vital infrastructure and essential services in war-affected areas.
The World Bank had previously estimated that the total cost for reconstruction and recovery in Lebanon would be around $11 billion, covering damages across various sectors such as transport, water, energy, municipal services, education, and healthcare.
