Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — As summer begins, Lebanon’s National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) released its annual report on coastal water quality. Of 38 monitored beaches, 24 were deemed safe for swimming, while the rest showed varying pollution levels.
The study, led by the Marine Research Center, analyzed seawater samples along Lebanon’s entire coastline, from Naqoura in the south to Akkar in the north. Researchers tested for harmful bacteria, including fecal coliforms and streptococci.
Key findings:
24 beaches rated “very good” or “good” for water quality
8 beaches classified as polluted or highly polluted, mainly along Beirut–Dbayeh
6 beaches marked “caution” or “critical,” needing attention before swimming is safe
Pollution levels by region:
North Lebanon: Anfeh, Amchit, Jbeil, Batroun, and Tripoli had very good water quality
South Lebanon: Abbassieh, Tyre, and Naqoura showed excellent conditions
Greater Beirut: Ramlet el-Baida, Manara, Ain Mreisseh, Antelias, and Dbayeh recorded high pollution levels

Authorities urge caution at polluted beaches and call for efforts to improve water quality ahead of the peak summer season.
