Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Enmaeya News) — Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Vice Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the Dubai Future Foundation, emphasized that the rapid technological acceleration offers the world promising opportunities to develop economic and future sectors and enhance governments’ ability to keep pace with transformations and leverage them to serve societies.

He added, “Readiness for future technologies and the ability to deploy their diverse applications have become key success criteria for government and private institutions, as well as individuals, in designing and shaping the future. We will continue supporting effective international partnerships, research, and scientific efforts to anticipate upcoming trends and technological opportunities.”

The statement came on the occasion of the launch of the World Economic Forum’s report, in cooperation with the Dubai Future Foundation, titled “Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025.” The report highlights the most prominent modern technologies and applications expected to shape a comprehensive picture of the world in the coming years and decades.

Al Gergawi said, “This report aims to introduce government leaders, companies, policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, and innovators worldwide to the most important technological and scientific developments expected to see wider adoption and expansion in the coming years.”

The “Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025” report identifies key priorities to focus on in the near future, including enhancing health, sustainability, technological integration, ongoing innovation, developing effective solutions, and strengthening community infrastructure readiness to expand the reach and impact of these technologies.

The technologies included in the report were selected based on criteria such as novelty, maturity, promising potential for tangible social benefits, and the ability to keep pace with the rapid changes the world is experiencing.

This year marks the first time the Dubai Future Foundation contributed to preparing this annual report, originally launched by the World Economic Forum in 2011. More than 300 experts, scientists, researchers, and futurists worldwide contributed to the report’s content.

The Dubai Future Foundation’s research team focused on highlighting the long-term impact of these technologies, exploring expected transformations if these innovations reach their full potential, and supporting experts and decision-makers in understanding promising technological capabilities and inspiring them to consider the best ways to apply these technologies in practice.

Future Priorities

The emerging technologies featured in the “Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025” include:

  • Sustainable energy applications in green nitrogen conversion

  • Use of chronic disease drugs to treat neurological disorders

  • Energy capture from the mixing of saltwater and freshwater

  • Integration of connected sensors for instant information sharing

  • Laboratory production of nano-enzymes

  • Small, smart sensors capable of monitoring health or environmental changes

  • Advanced nuclear technologies for clean energy production

  • Watermarking technologies for artificial intelligence-generated content

  • Engineered beneficial bacteria designed to provide treatment from inside the body

  • Advanced battery components characterized by light weight and high energy storage

Sustainable Solutions

The report highlights the importance of green nitrogen fixation technology, which uses new methods to produce fertilizers with electricity instead of fossil fuels. This can reduce pollution and carbon emissions and promote sustainable food production.

Innovative Treatments

It also notes that drugs originally used to treat diabetes and weight loss show promising results in slowing diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. GLP-1 inhibitors for neurodegenerative diseases offer new hope for patients amid limited existing options.

Hydropower

Osmotic power systems can generate clean electricity by capturing energy at the meeting point of saltwater and freshwater. This technology presents a promising opportunity to provide steady energy in coastal areas.

Cooperative Sensing

Networks of connected sensors can integrate to help vehicles, cities, and emergency services share information instantly. This improves safety, reduces traffic congestion, and speeds crisis response.

Nano-Enzymes

Lab-made nano-enzymes act like natural enzymes but are stronger, cheaper, and easier to use. They can improve medical testing, reduce pollution, and support safer manufacturing.

Small Smart Sensors

The technology for small, smart sensors can detect health or environmental changes without wires or human intervention, enabling early detection of pollution or diseases and saving time and lives.

Advanced Nuclear Technologies

New, smaller nuclear designs with alternative cooling systems provide cleaner, safer, and more affordable energy. These small reactors could play a key role in building reliable, emission-free energy systems.

AI Content Watermarking

The report underscores the importance of technologies that add special watermarks to AI-generated content to help distinguish real from fake information. This can help curb misinformation and build trust in online content.

Inside-the-Body Treatments

Scientists are developing engineered beneficial bacteria to deliver treatments from within the body, making long-term care more affordable and effective.

Energy Storage Components

Lightweight energy-storing materials for vehicles such as cars and planes can make electric vehicles lighter and more efficient, reducing emissions and improving performance.
