San Francisco, United States (Enmaeya News) — OpenAI has introduced a series of mental health-centered updates to its ChatGPT platform, in a move aimed at promoting more responsible and emotionally aware AI interactions. The updates come as concerns grow globally about the psychological effects of prolonged AI use.

Effective immediately, users involved in long sessions will receive gentle reminders encouraging them to pause and take breaks — part of a broader trend among tech platforms to support healthier digital habits. These prompts are designed to prioritize users’ well-being over extended engagement.

OpenAI has also refined how ChatGPT responds to sensitive personal queries. Rather than offering direct advice in emotionally charged situations — such as relationship dilemmas — the system now guides users through reflective thinking, presenting pros and cons to help them make their own decisions.

In response to past issues where the AI appeared overly agreeable — at times validating harmful or delusional beliefs — OpenAI has adjusted the system to better detect signs of emotional distress. The AI is now built to offer evidence-based responses and direct users to external support resources when appropriate.

The updates were developed in consultation with more than 90 physicians across 30 countries, along with experts in psychiatry, youth development and human-computer interaction, to ensure a well-rounded and informed approach.

“Our goal isn’t to hold your attention, but to help you use it well,” the company said in a statement. OpenAI also emphasized that ChatGPT is not intended to serve as a therapist, emotional support system or life coach, reinforcing the importance of healthy boundaries in AI use.
