Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — Lebanon’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has approved a four-day school week for public schools, as officials continue preparations for the start of the new academic year.

Minister of Education and Higher Education Rima Karami chaired an administrative meeting with Director General of Education Fadi Yarak and the directors of Education, Guidance, and Counseling.

The meeting focused on the number of school days, the duration of class periods, and the overall daily and weekly schedule. Officials also considered schools that operate in shifts, with morning and afternoon sessions.

During the meeting, Minister Karami emphasized ongoing preparations for the new school year and underscored the ministry’s commitment to supporting educators and school leaders.

Topics discussed included the curricula approved for the upcoming year in cooperation with the Curriculum Development Center, the possibility of combining classes, the responsibilities of school principals and librarians, laboratory preparations, and the management of substitute teachers.

Minister Karami affirmed that the ministry is “working with the administration and all concerned parties to support educators and school principals in ensuring a successful school year,” announcing the adoption of a four-day teaching week for public schools.

A statement from the general coordinator of the Union of Private Educational Institutions in Lebanon, Youssef Nasr, clarified that the ministry’s decision applies only to public schools. Private schools are not required to adopt the four-day week unless their administration chooses to implement it for their own circumstances.
