Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) – ESCWA and UN-Habitat launched the second edition of the Arab Mayors Academy, building on the success of its first edition.
The Academy empowers Arab local leaders—including governors, mayors, and senior municipal officials—to advance sustainable urban development and localize the SDGs, addressing challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and socioeconomic pressures.
The program combines executive training, online learning, webinars, and city-led showcases on topics including sustainable urban planning, SDG localization, urban recovery, housing, smart cities, and climate action.
Participants also gain access to an interactive digital platform and join the growing Arab Mayors Network.
ESCWA highlighted that the Academy strengthens leadership capacities while fostering regional dialogue, collaboration, and innovation, reinforcing the role of local governments as key drivers of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities across the Arab region.
