Beirut, Lebanon (Enmaeya News) — Lebanon is set to receive US$250 million in financing from the World Bank to support recovery and reconstruction in conflict-affected areas.

The Lebanon Emergency Assistance Project (LEAP) will focus on repairing damaged infrastructure, restoring essential services such as water, energy, transport, health, and education, and managing rubble in a sustainable way. The project aims to provide rapid relief while preparing the country for long-term reconstruction and economic recovery.

A Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment of the conflict between October 2023 and December 2024 estimated US$7.2 billion in direct damages across ten sectors, with total reconstruction needs reaching US$11 billion. Damage to critical infrastructure alone was assessed at US$1.1 billion, affecting transport, water, energy, municipal services, health, and education.

The LEAP framework, scalable up to US$1 billion, allows additional financing while emphasizing transparency, accountability, and results. The project is coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Office and implemented by the Council for Development and Reconstruction, with international oversight to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
