ABU DHABI (Enmaeya News) — September 22, 2025
The Abu Dhabi Institute of Technological Innovation is teaming up with NVIDIA to launch the Middle East’s first research lab dedicated to artificial intelligence and next-generation robotics, according to a report by Reuters.
The collaboration gives the institute access to specialized NVIDIA AI chips to advance research in areas such as humanoid robots, quadruped robots, and advanced robotic arms, said CEO Dr. Najwa Aaraj.
Aaraj explained that the center now has direct access to “Thor”, a new chip designed to enhance robotic capabilities and accelerate system development. She noted that negotiations with NVIDIA began more than a year ago.
The project also involves employee exchanges between the institute and NVIDIA, along with a range of newly created positions to support the initiative.
The Abu Dhabi Institute of Technological Innovation serves as the applied research arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council, a government entity driving the UAE’s efforts to compete in the global AI race.
The UAE government previously signed a multi-billion-dollar deal to build one of the region’s largest data centers using NVIDIA’s advanced chips, during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit in May.
However, the initiative has faced challenges due to the UAE’s close relations with China and U.S. concerns about advanced chips reaching Chinese entities.
