The ARADINA Project was officially launched under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture H.E. Dr. Nizar Hani, at a ceremony held at the Commodore Hotel in Hamra.
This four-year initiative, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented in partnership with the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (CIHEAM Montpellier), Action Against Hunger, and Fair Trade Lebanon, will support 2,500 farmers and 145 cooperatives across Lebanon in adopting sustainable agroecological practices.
Minister Hani said the project aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture's 2025–2026 strategic orientations, which aim to support farmers affected by crises, strengthen skills, improve market access, and consolidate sustainable ecological practices. He described ARADINA as a pivotal step toward a greener and more resilient future for Lebanese agriculture and expressed gratitude to all partners, farmers, and cooperatives.
Speeches at the event were delivered by Thierry Dupeuble, Director of CIHEAM Montpellier, and Jean-Bertrand Mothes, Director of AFD in Lebanon. Mothes said, “With ARADINA, we want to help Lebanese farmers grow sustainably, access markets, and strengthen their communities.” A detailed project presentation was given by Dr. Hatem Belhouchette from CIHEAM. Panels focused on supporting farmers’ agroecological transition, the role of cooperatives and SMEs, and lessons from field experiences.
The ARADINA Project aims to improve farmers’ livelihoods, preserve natural resources, establish traceable and transparent value chains, and promote healthy, profitable products. It also seeks to engage civil society and policymakers in adopting agroecology as a strategic pathway for Lebanon’s agricultural sector.
