BEIRUT (Enmaeya News) — September 29, 2025

The German Ambassador to Lebanon, Kurt Georg Stoeckl-Stillfried, together with representatives from KfW, UNOPS, the Beirut Governor, and municipal officials, inaugurated the rehabilitated Sioufi Garden and Jisr el Wati Courts.

These sites are part of eight public green spaces being upgraded across Beirut and Bourj Hammoud, covering 75,000 square meters. The revitalized areas provide accessible, inclusive, and safe spaces, promoting social interaction, health, and community engagement.

Ambassador Stoeckl-Stillfried said, “SiMA is about building back better, smarter, and greener, empowering local communities, and providing spaces for all generations to thrive.”

Governor Marwan Abboud thanked the German government, emphasizing the project’s importance for Beirut’s residents. UNOPS Director Muhammed Usman Akram highlighted the inclusive approach, while Ziad Shayya, Director General of the Railways and Public Transport Authority, noted the spaces foster community wellbeing and vitality.

The initiative is part of the Sustainable Integrated Municipal Actions (SiMA) project, financed by the German Government via KfW and implemented by UNOPS, aiming to restore municipal services and strengthen community resilience.
