LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 6, 2025
The Ministers of Finance, Labor, and State for Administrative Development jointly launched a new E-Payment Gateway at the Ministry of Labor in a press conference on Friday.
Finance Minister Yassine Jaber announced a roadmap to establish a digital financial platform aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and the citizen experience.
Digital systems have now interconnected the Treasury, the General Directorate of Land Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Economy and Trade, with plans to link the Ministry of Justice soon.
The electronic payment gateway will enable taxpayers to get communication via email and submit transactions online, including income tax, VAT, and duties. This reduces the financial and administrative burden on citizens and accelerates the process.
Minister of State for Administrative Reform Makki reported a rise in successful digital payments from 15% to 60% in just two months and stressed that reforms aim to simplify processes and improve transparency and accountability.
Property owners, investors, and buyers can also submit online requests and track their transactions. Rental values will be digitally recorded to ensure accurate tax calculation, which will then be electronically transferred to the land registry.
Development is currently underway for an online portal and mobile application that will consolidate transaction submissions, request tracking, and online payments.
Minister Jaber highlighted efforts to establish agreements with banks to promote card usage across all ministries, reducing the need for cash for both online and offline transactions.
Labor Minister Haidar also announced that card-payment machines will soon be available at the Labor Ministry for non-digital transactions.
Specialized teams will be deployed to support all taxpayers, regardless of their digital proficiency. Plans are also in place to integrate artificial intelligence, making the system more intelligent, user-friendly, and accessible for everyone.
Later, Minister Haidar received Jordan’s Ambassador, Walid Hadid, for talks on strengthening bilateral relations.
If fully implemented, the system could help curb issues such as bureaucracy and opportunities for corruption by increasing transparency.
However, its success will ultimately depend on continuous government support, public adoption, and the effective enforcement of accountability measures.
