A report by UNICEF has revealed that 85 million children worldwide are currently out of school, raising urgent concerns for countries already struggling with access to education, including Lebanon.
The report outlines a worsening global education gap, particularly in regions affected by conflict, displacement, and economic instability.
UNICEF’s findings place Lebanon among countries where education access is deteriorating, especially for refugee and low-income families.
Around 470,000 school-age Syrian refugee children reside in Lebanon, and many face ongoing barriers to education, including limited school capacity, lack of transportation, and rising child labor.
The international report also warns that official development aid for education is shrinking, a trend that could further impact Lebanon, which relies heavily on foreign funding to sustain its public school system.
Without swift action, experts warn, Lebanon risks a lost generation of children unable to secure the education needed for future stability and development.
