The United Arab Emirates is putting major resources into its space sector, with plans to invest around $12 billion, according to Arabian Business.
The goal is to grow the industry and bring in more private companies to work alongside the government.
Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, said the country is now moving into a more advanced stage in space development.
He explained that while the government led early projects, it is now time for private businesses to play a bigger role.
At the recent Dubai Airshow, more private companies and startups were present than ever before. Their presence at the event doubled, and they had 60% more exhibition space compared to previous years.
This shows that local companies are becoming more involved and ready to contribute to the space economy.
The UAE is also building stronger ties with other countries. Dr. Al Falasi mentioned new discussions with international space agencies to form partnerships.
Some private companies in the UAE are already active in areas like artificial intelligence, satellite imaging, environmental monitoring, and using space data for things like city planning and finding water underground.
The UAE Space Agency says it wants the country to become one of the top 10 places in the world for space businesses by 2031.
With more private sector involvement and international cooperation, the UAE is working to become a leading player in the global space race by helping shape the future of the industry.
