LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 9, 2025
Lebanon’s draft budget for 2026 includes about $200 million to run and maintain public transportation, according to Al-Akhbar.
This is a big cost for the government, especially since most of it, around $183 million, will be spent just on fuel.
Lebanon imports about $5 billion worth of fuel every year. A lot of that is used to generate electricity, especially with the ongoing power crisis and the country’s reliance on private neighborhood generators.
The $200 million will pay for fuel, oil, and other materials needed to keep official vehicles running. These vehicles are used by ministries, public institutions, the army, and the security forces.
The money will also cover things like engine oil, brake fluid, spare parts, tires, and batteries.
Experts say this high cost shows how inefficient the government’s systems are. With Lebanon still facing a serious financial crisis, it’s unclear if the government can reduce these everyday expenses anytime soon.
