LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 13, 2025

A group of private generator operators in Lebanon proposed a plan to provide 24/7 electricity across the country, according to MTV.

The initiative aims to reduce reliance on the national power company, Electricité du Liban, and improve electricity access for citizens. The plan is expected to be presented to the government soon.

Abdo Saada, president of the Private Generators Union, said the proposal focuses on cooperation between private operators and the state.

Saada emphasized that working together could lower costs, reduce waste, and ensure more reliable electricity.

The union has already held discussions with the Ministries of Energy and Economy, as well as Electricité du Liban, to explore partnerships.

Under the plan, the state would buy electricity from private operators at regulated rates, and billing would follow official tariffs.

Private operators would manage most of the collections, addressing a longstanding problem with late or incomplete payments.

Private generators have played a critical role during crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, providing electricity for hospitals, oxygen units, and essential services.

Some municipal leaders have expressed support for the plan, noting the challenges private operators face due to high fuel and maintenance costs.

The union is also discussing the plan with Minister of Economy Amir Al-Bassat, who has expressed a positive view. The government is expected to review the proposal in the coming weeks.

This highlights the growing need for public-private partnerships to address Lebanon’s ongoing electricity shortages.

If implemented, the plan could provide more reliable power to households and businesses, easing one of the country’s most persistent daily challenges.
