LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 13, 2025
Lebanon has launched a new initiative to improve transparency and accountability in municipal governments, according to the National News Agency.
The project, led by the Smart Municipal Academy and Transparency International Lebanon, introduces a set of indicators to help municipalities assess and improve their operations.
The launch event took place at the Radisson Blu Martinez Hotel in Beirut and included presentations on how the indicators work and how local governments can use them to become more open and accountable.
The initiative is part of the EU-funded “Building” project, which supports local governance and civic engagement.
Officials say the transparency indicators will help municipalities gain citizens’ trust, improve services, and strengthen local governance.
Municipalities will also receive training and resources to implement the indicators effectively.
The project marks a step forward in promoting good governance in Lebanon, encouraging local authorities to be more transparent, responsible, and responsive to community needs.
