LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 15, 2025

White pelicans have been observed once again at Qaraoun Lake during their annual migration, signaling a potential improvement in the environmental health of the area, according to the Litani River Authority (LRA).

The sightings come as part of the birds’ seasonal journey across the Eastern Mediterranean and are being viewed as a positive indicator of the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Litani River and its surrounding ecosystem.

According to the LRA, the return of the pelicans reflects progress in restoring the lake’s natural habitat. The Authority continues to implement environmental protection measures aimed at reducing pollution and supporting biodiversity.

Lebanon lies on one of the world’s most important migratory flyways, and the reappearance of the pelicans reaffirms the country’s ecological significance in the region.

Environmental experts emphasize that sustained efforts are necessary to preserve these habitats and maintain conditions favorable to both migratory and resident bird species.
