LEBANON (Enmaeya Features) - October 15, 2025

After years of closure, the devastation of the Beirut port explosion, and Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis, Beirut Souks have reopened, breathing new life into the heart of the capital. Once the vibrant center of Beirut’s social and commercial life, the Souks now stand again as a symbol of endurance and rebirth.

For Adib Al-Naqeeb, General Manager of Beirut Souks and Chief Commercial Officer at Solidere, the reopening carries deep meaning: “a message of hope, resilience, and confidence in Lebanon and in Beirut in particular,” he told Enmaeya.

According to Al-Naqeeb, the event was far more than a commercial milestone; it marked the revival of the capital’s beating heart, a place that unites people through work, culture, and daily life. The return of activity to this historic site, he noted, is proof that Beirut can rise again despite years of hardship.

Rebuilding in Difficult Times

The reconstruction of Beirut Souks required perseverance and coordination. Al-Naqeeb highlighted the logistical and economic hurdles his team faced in sourcing materials, managing imports, and navigating financial restrictions. However, the management, tenants, and partners collaborated to revitalize the Souks.

“The greatest challenge,” he noted, “was encouraging people to return, to believe once more in this space as a destination for gathering, shopping, and living”.

Life Returns to the Souks

The reopening drew emotional crowds and widespread attention. Over 15,000 visitors filled the Souks on opening day: Lebanese residents, expatriates, and tourists from across the Arab world. The public’s enthusiasm reflected a collective longing for normalcy and revival.

Media coverage amplified this momentum, showcasing Beirut as a living symbol of hope and continuity. “Beirut continues to unite its people around shared spaces that embody life and resilience,” Al-Naqeeb affirmed.

Economic and Cultural Revival

With the return of more than 150 Lebanese and international brands, Beirut Souks are once again serving as a key driver of the capital’s economy, generating jobs, boosting trade, and restoring investor confidence.

The destination now blends commerce, culture, and leisure, with plans for cultural and musical events aimed at attracting both locals and visitors. “Our goal is to reestablish Beirut Souks as a vibrant hub for business, art, and community life,” Al-Naqeeb explained.

Future Plans

The reopening marks only the first phase of a larger development plan. New stores and attractions will be introduced over the coming months, alongside a department store under restoration on the north end of the Souks, expected to open within two years.

Efforts are also underway to integrate technology and smart services that enhance the visitor experience. “We want Beirut Souks to remain modern, dynamic, and sustainable—a place that evolves with time”, Al-Naqeeb said.

Strength in Partnership

Partnership and collaboration lie at the heart of this revival. Enmaeya learned that the management provided various forms of support to tenants to foster a balanced environment where both small and large businesses can thrive.

"The success of one store reflects the success of all”, Al-Naqeeb noted.

In every street and storefront that lights up again, Beirut sends a clear message to the world: the city endures, alive, resilient, and unbreakably hopeful.
