The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai for what the Swedish Academy described as a striking and forward-thinking literary contribution.

Krasznahorkai, 69, is known for his complex work, often written in long, unbroken sentences that challenge traditional literary form.

His most notable works include Satantango and The Melancholy of Resistance, both of which have been adapted into films by director Béla Tarr.

The Nobel Committee commended Krasznahorkai for effectively portraying the challenges of modern life and for his precise and thoughtful representation of existential questions.

The award makes Krasznahorkai the second Hungarian to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, following Imre Kertész in 2002.

This demonstrates the Academy’s continued recognition of innovative literary voices and reaffirms literature’s role in advancing human understanding.
