LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 15, 2025
Lebanon officially launched its 5G network this week, unveiling a three-year nationwide rollout plan, the telecommunications minister announced.
Charles Hage said the project will be carried out in partnership with the reactivated Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and major mobile providers Alfa and Touch.
The new 5G service promises fast speeds, up to 10 gigabits per second, and improvements in connectivity, with the capacity to support advanced Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
In Lebanon’s context of strained infrastructure, such upgrades could offer new opportunities in education, business, and digital services.
Still, there are many challenges ahead. Expanding 5G in a country like Lebanon, where electricity is unreliable, rural areas lack stable connections, and rules are unclear, will be a major test for both engineers and policymakers.
The success of the project will depend on attracting investment, improving current networks, and fixing long-standing problems in the telecom sector.
By 2028, if the plan stays on track, the entire country should be 5G-enabled.
Whether users across Beirut, Tripoli, the Bekaa Valley, and more remote regions will enjoy seamless access will depend on how effectively investors, regulators, and telecom operators coordinate over the coming years.
