Google has released Veo 3, its latest artificial intelligence video model, as competition intensifies in the fast-growing world of AI-generated video.
The launch comes amid hype around OpenAI’s Sora, which recently gained major public attention.
Veo 3, developed by Google DeepMind, allows users to create short, realistic video clips from text prompts.
The new version adds sound effects, background audio, and dialogue, making the results more realistic.
Google says the tool produces higher-quality visuals, better scene consistency, and improved understanding of user instructions.
The company also introduced support for vertical videos—popular on platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts, along with 1080p resolution for clearer, more professional output.
Pricing for the service has dropped to $0.40 per second, while a faster, lower-quality version costs $0.15 per second.
Google is integrating Veo 3 directly into YouTube Shorts, allowing users to generate eight-second videos simply by typing a short description.
OpenAI’s rival tool, Sora, has been widely praised for its ability to produce high-quality clips, setting a high bar for competitors.
Analysts say Veo 3 is Google’s strongest response yet, and a follow-up version, Veo 3.1, is already in development to support longer, smoother videos.
Still, experts warn that as video-generation models become more advanced, they could be used to spread misinformation or create deepfakes, raising new concerns for tech companies and regulators alike.
The battle between Google and OpenAI marks the start of a new phase in the race to dominate AI-powered content creation.
