The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress, held in Abu Dhabi, has officially adopted Lebanon’s Proposal No. 148 titled “Supporting the Restoration and Rehabilitation of War-Affected Ecosystems.”
The proposal, initiated by Lebanon’s Ministry of Environment, highlights the urgent need to rehabilitate ecosystems damaged by war, aligning with national and global efforts to protect the environment and promote ecological recovery.
According to the submitted paper, wars have caused extensive degradation of forests, water sources, and soils due to fires, debris pollution, and toxic material leaks, severely impacting biodiversity and the sustainability of natural resources.
This milestone reinforces Lebanon’s commitment to advancing environmental resilience and fostering international cooperation to restore nature in conflict-affected regions.
