The President of the Lebanese University, Dr. Bassam Badran, issued a decision to suspend the Director of the First Branch of the Faculty of Law following a grade-fraud scandal and appointed a replacement director.
The text of the decision reads:
The President of the Lebanese University,
Based on Decree No. 8415 dated 22/10/2021 (Appointment of the President of the Lebanese University),
Based on Law No. 67/75 dated 26/12/1967 and its amendments (Law on the Organization of the Lebanese University),
Based on Decision No. 280 dated 8/3/2024 regarding the appointment of branch directors in the Lebanese University units,
Based on ongoing investigations at the Faculty of Law and Political and Administrative Sciences – First Branch regarding alleged tampering with exam papers and signatures,
Based on the request submitted by Dr. Mujtaba Murtada to temporarily relieve him from his duties as Director of the Faculty of Law and Political and Administrative Sciences – First Branch, registered at the Central Administration under No. 7205 dated 9/10/2025,
and in the interest of public service, the following is decided:
Article 1:
Dr. Mujtaba Bashir Murtada is relieved, upon his request, from his duties as Director of the Faculty of Law and Political and Administrative Sciences – First Branch until the results of the administrative investigations are issued.
Article 2:
Dr. Samer Maher Abdullah is assigned the duties of Director of the Faculty of Law and Political and Administrative Sciences – First Branch in addition to his other responsibilities.
Article 3:
This decision shall be communicated where necessary and is effective as of its issuance date".
