LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 23, 2025
Public sector employees in Lebanon carried out a nationwide strike today, protesting against the country’s deteriorating economic conditions and rising living costs, following a call from the Public Administration Employees Association.
The level of participation varied across regions. In some areas, the strike was fully observed, while in others, employees attended work only to handle urgent matters.
According to LBCI, in Sidon, most staff at the Sidon Government Palace joined the strike from the morning, with the exception of the finance, industry, and labor departments.
Employees also organized a protest, describing their actions as a “cry of pain and anger for their dignity and rights.” They warned that they could escalate to an open-ended strike if their demands were not heard by the government.
In Baabda, public office employees supported the strike, arriving at their offices but suspending all official transactions. Notices reading “Strike” were posted at the entrances of government buildings.
Similarly, in Hermel, official offices remained closed in line with the strike, except for a limited number of employees who attended to address urgent needs.
The strike highlights growing frustration among public sector workers as Lebanon continues to grapple with a severe economic crisis marked by currency depreciation, rising inflation, and declining purchasing power.
Employees are demanding immediate government action to secure their wages, improve working conditions, and restore basic economic stability.
This protest follows several other labor actions in recent months, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the country’s economic collapse.
