Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar chaired a coordination meeting with representatives from the International Labor Organization (ILO), employers’ associations, and other key stakeholders on Friday to discuss proposed amendments to Lebanon’s Labor Law.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Labor headquarters, brought together former minister Mohammad Choucair, business representative Salim Zaani, ILO delegate Tony Airon, and the ministry’s acting director-general.

According to the National News Agency, officials described the discussions as constructive, emphasizing the urgency of drafting a modernized version of the Labor Law “in line with current social and economic realities.” A technical working group will be formed to prepare the revised draft as soon as possible, according to a ministry statement.

Following the session, Minister Haidar also met with representatives from the fuel station owners’ union and cleaning services companies.

He underscored the ministry’s commitment to combating illegal labor, particularly in those sectors, and announced plans for increased inspections in coordination with the relevant security agencies.

The meeting reflects renewed efforts to modernize Lebanon’s outdated labor legislation amid mounting pressure from international organizations and local employers to improve working conditions and strengthen legal protections for workers.
