LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - October 27, 2025

The National Litani River Authority, in coordination with the Municipality of Zahle – Maallaqa and Taanayel, has launched a field inspection to identify the source and nature of the contaminated water that leaked into the Berdawni River within Zahle’s jurisdiction.

This immediate action comes as part of the Authority’s plan to monitor water quality in the Litani River tributaries and detect any sources of industrial or sanitary pollution that could affect the aquatic environment or public health.

Technical teams will collect laboratory samples to determine the possible pollutants and their origin — whether industrial, domestic, or resulting from sewage networks in preparation for legal action against the party responsible for the contamination, in cooperation with the relevant public prosecutor’s office.

The Authority affirmed that it will not tolerate any party that pollutes water resources and continues to work with municipalities and relevant ministries to monitor and clean river streams across the Bekaa as part of the Pollution Control Program for the Litani River and its tributaries.
