Lebanon (Enmaeya Features) – October 28, 2025

As winter approaches, Lebanese citizens are preparing for cold weather and ensuring they have basic needs, including household gas used for heating. This season is a real test for the sector to meet the increasing demand safely and efficiently, amid concerns about possible shortages or price changes.

Supplies and Stock: Sufficient Gas and Preparedness in Place

In an interview with Enmaeya, Farid Zeinoun, head of the Gas Workers and Distributors Union, said that gas shipments are arriving regularly, and available quantities are enough to meet demand during winter.

He added that the current stock can cover all areas in Lebanon, and any shortage would only happen in case of a major security event.

Zeinoun also said that distribution is running normally without any problems, showing the sector’s ability to meet citizens’ needs efficiently.

Licensed and Unlicensed Plants

Zeinoun revealed that Lebanon has about 160 gas filling plants, 114 of which are licensed, while the rest operate without authorization.

He said, "The union asked the relevant ministers to take action against unlicensed plants, but no actual measures have been taken so far”.

He added that the union cooperates with the Ministries of Industry, Energy, and Economy to regulate the plants, while discussions continue about separating ministry responsibilities. Energy should oversee filling plants, while Industry handles production plants.

Monitoring Illegal Tanks and Public Safety

Zeinoun stressed the need for the Ministry of Interior to monitor illegal tanks on rooftops that supply gas to citizens, warning of serious safety risks.

Strict instructions are needed to ensure monitoring across all areas and to prevent unsafe practices that could lead to accidents.

Ensuring Gas Availability and Protecting Citizens

Zeinoun stated that all measures aim to guarantee gas availability and protect citizens’ safety, with continuous monitoring of unlicensed plants and illegal tanks.

He assured that the sector is ready for any emergency, and cooperation between the union and relevant ministries ensures market stability and safe gas supply across all regions.

Citizens can rely on the sector to meet their winter needs, but they should follow official guidelines and buy cylinders from licensed sources to avoid risks. The authorities must continue monitoring unlicensed plants and tanks to protect public safety and ensure this vital resource is available in every Lebanese home.
