Lebanon’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karamy, launched on Monday the “Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund” (TLIF), a new program created in partnership with the European Union and UNICEF to enhance the quality of public education.
The launch took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Beirut, with the participation of education officials, school directors, EU and UNICEF representatives, and 34 public schools selected to take part in the project.
The fund aims to support innovation in teaching and learning across Lebanon’s public schools. It will allow schools to design and implement new ideas that improve classroom experiences and help students recover from the challenges the education sector has faced in recent years.
Minister Karamy said the initiative is part of the ministry’s long-term vision to rebuild trust in public education and strengthen school performance. “Real change starts inside schools. These 34 schools are proof that innovation is possible and already happening,” she said.
The selected schools were chosen based on their strong performance and ability to introduce creative approaches to learning. According to Karamy, this project builds on previous national efforts to support public schools and improve teaching standards.
The EU’s head of cooperation in Lebanon, Alessandra Viser, said the program offers an important opportunity to raise education quality for all Lebanese children, especially those most in need.
UNICEF Representative Mark Luigi Corsi added that education innovation begins in classrooms and that UNICEF will continue to work with the ministry and the EU to expand successful projects across the country.
The Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund is expected to serve as a model for future education programs aimed at building a stronger and more inclusive public school system in Lebanon.
