Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, a new AI-driven online encyclopedia that aims to rival Wikipedia.

The platform went live on October 27, 2025, and currently hosts about 885,000 articles, far fewer than Wikipedia’s seven million English entries.

Musk has criticized Wikipedia for what he calls bias, saying Grokipedia will provide “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

The platform is powered by Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok. Unlike Wikipedia, which relies on volunteers to write and edit articles, Grokipedia is entirely AI-generated. Users cannot directly edit articles but can report mistakes for review.

According to CNN, experts and critics have raised concerns about accuracy and fairness. Early checks show that some Grokipedia articles have very few references, and some content appears to be copied directly from Wikipedia.

Certain entries on social and political topics have sparked controversy for presenting opinions as facts, including claims linking pornography to the AIDS crisis and social media to transgender identity.

The Wikimedia Foundation, which oversees Wikipedia, highlighted the differences in governance. Wikipedia uses community oversight, strict neutrality rules, and constant updates to maintain accuracy.

Grokipedia experienced a brief outage on launch day due to high traffic. Musk acknowledged the delays and said updates are planned to improve the platform. Despite the criticisms, he said Grokipedia will continue to expand and refine its content.

As it enters public use, Grokipedia faces a major test: whether an AI-only encyclopedia can compete with Wikipedia’s long-standing model of volunteer-driven, verified content.
