The Litani River Authority, in coordination with the Municipality of Zahle–Maallaqa and Taanayel, has launched a field investigation to determine the source and nature of the polluted water that recently leaked into the Berdawni River within the city of Zahle.
This immediate action comes as part of the Authority’s ongoing plan to monitor water quality in the Litani River’s tributaries and to detect any industrial or sanitary pollution sources that could threaten the environment or public health.
Technical teams will collect laboratory samples to identify possible contaminants and trace their origins, whether industrial, domestic, or linked to sewage networks, before taking legal measures against the responsible parties in coordination with the competent public prosecution.
The Authority reaffirmed that it will not tolerate any violations affecting Lebanon’s water resources and continues to work with municipalities and concerned ministries to monitor and clean river streams across the Bekaa, as part of the national Pollution Reduction Program for the Litani River and its tributaries.
