Disney and Google announced in separate statements that Disney channels are no longer available on Google’s subscription-based streaming platform, YouTube TV, following the failure to reach a licensing agreement.
Among the affected Disney networks are ESPN, ABC, FX, National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Disney Channel, and ABC News Live.
A source told Reuters that Disney channels were removed from YouTube TV just before the contract expired.
YouTube TV, one of the largest subscription TV distributors in the United States, has been engaged in a series of negotiations this year with companies threatening to pull their media channels from the platform.
A Disney spokesperson said the company is committed to working toward a resolution as quickly as possible.
In a statement, Disney added, “With a market value of three trillion dollars, Google is exploiting its market dominance to stifle competition and violate the terms we successfully negotiated with all other distributors”.
YouTube TV will offer its subscribers $20 credit if Disney networks remain unavailable on the platform for an extended period.
