LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - November 5, 2025

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned what he described as the “tampering with Lebanon’s natural heritage” following an unauthorized event at Jeita Grotto.

In a post on the social-media platform X, Salam stated that the Ministry of Tourism had not granted any written authorization for the event, and that the Lebanese Caving Club had not been consulted.

He announced that a full investigation has been requested to hold accountable any parties found to have violated legal procedures or contract terms.

The prime minister reiterated his September directive requiring all public administrations, municipalities and institutions to comply with laws governing the use of public land, including heritage, touristic and archaeological sites.

The incident has drawn attention to regulatory gaps in the protection of Lebanon’s landmarks, raising questions about oversight, accountability and the future of the country’s natural and cultural assets.
