LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - November 6, 2025
Lebanon’s Information Minister, Paul Morcos, on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to protecting media freedom, while urging journalists to report responsibly.
In a statement, Morcos said his ministry will continue to defend “freedom of opinion and expression,” ensuring that journalists and media outlets can work freely within legal and ethical boundaries. He highlighted the long-standing role of Lebanese media, which has historically valued the right to express differing opinions.
Morcos also warned media organizations against publishing accusations or personal attacks, stressing the need for dialogue, professionalism, and adherence to the law. He said protecting journalists’ safety and maintaining high journalistic standards are key priorities for the ministry.
While he did not mention any specific recent events, his comments come amid growing concerns about judicial summonses and alleged interference in newsroom independence in Lebanon.
Press freedom advocates have raised alarms about these issues in recent months.
The minister has also pushed for a new media law to modernize Lebanon’s information sector. The proposed law would remove jail sentences for journalists and provide stronger legal protections for the press.
Morcos’s remarks underscore Lebanon’s ongoing struggle to balance free expression with professional and legal responsibilities.
The statement reflects both a promise to uphold media freedoms and a reminder that the press must operate ethically in a challenging environment.
