LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - November 12, 2025

Middle East Airlines (MEA), Lebanon’s national carrier, marked its 80th anniversary this week by announcing strong profits, a fleet expansion, and the launch of a new low-cost subsidiary, “Fly Beirut.”

The new airline, set to launch in 2027, aims to make air travel more accessible amid growing public pressure over high ticket prices, offering a more affordable option for Lebanese travelers while expanding MEA’s market reach.

MEA reported annual profits exceeding $100 million, solidifying its position as one of Lebanon’s few consistently profitable companies despite years of national economic and political instability.

The airline also plans to add six new aircraft to its fleet next year as part of a major renewal program.

According to LBCI, today, MEA operates 23 aircraft serving over 33 destinations and employs around 5,000 people. The company continues to play a vital role in maintaining Lebanon’s connection to the world, particularly through Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport,  a key regional hub that has remained operational even during regional airspace restrictions.

Under the leadership of Chairman Mohamad El-Hout, MEA has weathered decades of turbulence, from the Lebanese Civil War to repeated damage to its fleet during Israeli strikes.

Despite these challenges, the airline has rebuilt and modernized its operations, maintaining safety standards and international partnerships.

As MEA celebrates eight decades of resilience and renewal, the launch of “Fly Beirut” and the upcoming fleet expansion signal a new phase of transformation.

The move reflects the airline’s strategy to balance profitability with accessibility, ensuring it remains competitive in a region marked by fluctuating demand, rising costs, and infrastructure challenges.
