Minister of the Displaced and State Minister for Technology and Artificial Intelligence Kamal Shehadeh participated in a panel discussion during the “Women on the Front Lines” conference, organized by the May Chidiac Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations.

During his intervention, Minister Shehadeh highlighted the mission of the newly established Ministry of Technology and Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing its role in driving digital transformation and fostering innovation. He noted that technology “opens doors for women’s empowerment in ways many traditional sectors do not.”

Shehadeh praised the potential of technology to stimulate Lebanon’s economy and generate high-quality jobs in emerging fields.

He stressed the importance of developing policies that promote women’s participation through education and training, while also ensuring access to funding for startups operating in the technology sector.

Addressing Lebanon’s challenges in advancing its technology ecosystem, the minister pointed to weak digital infrastructure and the ongoing brain drain as major obstacles.

He affirmed that the ministry is working to establish comprehensive policies and strategies to build a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and collaboration across sectors.

Shehadeh’s participation in the conference underscored the Lebanese government’s recognition that women’s empowerment and digital development are deeply interconnected, both forming essential pillars of sustainable economic growth.

The “Women on the Front Lines” conference brought together influential women leaders, policymakers, and innovators from Lebanon and abroad to discuss women’s evolving roles in politics, media, technology, and entrepreneurship amid global challenges and rapid technological change.
