The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and the Hariri Foundation for Human Sustainable Development signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization.

The agreement will introduce the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in 12 public schools across several Lebanese governorates.

By offering public school students access to the PYP, the project aims to help them become proactive, positive agents of change while strengthening collaboration between public schools and the broader IB community in Lebanon.

Following the agreement, the selected schools were designated as PYP candidate schools, each supported by an IB-appointed consultant. These consultants provide ongoing guidance and professional support through both on-site and virtual visits.

At the end of the consultancy phase, each school will receive a comprehensive evaluation report outlining its progress and readiness for IB authorization.

To build capacity for successful implementation, a series of IB-recognized professional development workshops was held in July 2024.

A total of eighteen workshops engaged school directors, PYP coordinators, and nearly 400 teachers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to lead the programme in their schools.

Representatives from MEHE and the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) also participated, reinforcing national collaboration and alignment.

Building on this momentum, in July 2025, the Hariri Foundation organized a large-scale training event that gathered 500 public school educators for intensive training on PYP core policies and wellbeing in schools, marking a historic milestone for public education in Lebanon.

The event opened with inspiring addresses by Mrs. Bahia Hariri, President of the Hariri Foundation, and Mary Tadros, IB Senior Development & Recognition Manager, who reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing innovation and excellence across Lebanon’s public education system.

The program marks a significant step in expanding international-standard education within Lebanon’s public school system.
